Lock Down Lifted

This is our anthem starting....well, now.

The Richey Family "Lock Down of 09/10" is officially lifted. We have been in hibernation due to the swine flu outbreak, regular flu, RSV, and stomach viruses for months now. BUT, we are starting to slowly rejoin the real world!!

Break out the hymn, "Hallelujah, Hallelujah!"

Luke will be 2 months old next week, and March is here! I'm so excited to begin our routine of bible study, church, play dates, library story time, music classes, and Target trips! The days are getting warmer and longer, so spring is right around the corner. Our lives are about to get back to normal.

I just have to laugh

Layton is 2 & 1/2.

This means that we are in the midst of the "terrible two's" (even though they haven't been that terrible at all!). Add a new baby brother on top of that, and some days can be challenging. But then it is also the sweetest, most inquisitive age, and that makes every hard day absolutely worth it. These days I'm choosing my battles and learning to be calm in the hairiest of situations, for example, nursing a newborn and potty training at the same time. Yes, my days are interesting, and I just have to laugh.

Speaking of laughing, tonight as we were singing songs and saying our prayers before bedtime, Layton asked me a very interesting question. He said, "Baby Jesus drink milk like Luke?" With a smile I said, "yes, sweetheart, I think he probably did."

Like I said, I just have to laugh.

Blue Eyes?

Luke's blue eyes have taken me by surprise.

I realize his eye color can change up to 6 months old; however, with his dark features, I was assuming they would have turned dark brown by now. I just love his Daddy's brown eyes! I always said Blake was the cliche, "tall, dark and handsome". At least in my book! :)

I have blue eyes and Blake has brown, so the probability of the recessive gene being passed on in a second child was less likely. Yes, the science teacher in me is doing a Punnett Square in my head as we speak! :) It takes two recessive genes joining together for the trait to be passed on to the child....so in our case (Bb X bg), there is only a 25% chance for blue eyes. I was thinking our Lukey would be our "brown eyed boy".

Time will tell...

But sometimes, blue eyes still cry,

big crocodile tears.

A Season and a Purpose

As we celebrate Luke being 7 weeks old today, I am also reminded of this day one year ago. If I had only known the beautiful miracle He had waiting for me right around the corner; it reminds of Ecclesiastes and that everything has a season and purpose.

To everything there is a season, and

a time to pluck up
that which is planted;

Before he was in our hands, he was in Lord's hands.

I am thankful that he always will be.
