It all started on Monday...we took Little Man in for his 18 month old WELL baby check up. This means that you are NOT SICK, just to check in w/ your to pediatrician to monitor growth and usually get shots. We were looking forward to seeing how much he had grown since August!! We arrived, we went straight into the Well Room - away from the sick kids. The appointment went fairly quick and consisted of shots (which we are WAY behind on...purposefully), growth measurements (25 lbs - 25 -30% percentile & 34 inches 75 -80% - yes, he is going to be tall and thin like his daddy!) and then the usual check of the chest, ears, and throat. Dr. Chris asked us if he was saying a "few" words yet. Blake and I both smiled and said, "Yes, about 100!" Dr. Chris laughed, and said, "Oh, I would say that is considered a "few"!" Everything was great! We left thanking Dr. Chris and were smiling on our way out.
Fast forward about 5 hours....
Little man was very sick at his stomach....let's just say that he lost everything he had eaten that day. So much for the WELL baby check up - when you leave the office SICK!
The days that followed are much of the same....lots of sleeping, drinking lots of Pedilyte, and checking for a fever. It all is a blur.
Thank goodness for help from my mom this week. Don't you just need your momma when your baby is sick!? I do. Then on Friday and Saturday, it seemed to make Layton feel much better to see his Grammie and Grandaddy. But it truly wasn't until late last night that things actually seemed to make a turn in the right direction. Needless to say, its been a long week.
Here is a picture of Little Man....w/ NO energy....trying to fight the mean stomach bug!

Ok, mommies out there....I have a question....(guys beware, this may be TMI!)
Little Man nursed for 14 months. We both enjoyed the experience, it went VERY well...and I look forward to doing it again w/ my babies in the future.
Here is the breakdown -
14 months of nursing = NO ILLNESSES, not once was he SICK!
4 months since I have stopped nursing = sick 3 times! 2 colds, and stomach bug.
What is the deal? Makes me feel guilty for quitting, however, he truly weaned himself. Ah! Is it just a coincidence that it is winter, we go more places and interact w/ other little ones...therefore, more germs?!?!? Who knows?!
But it's frustrating!

just think of all the good you did for 14 months!!! john weaned himself over a period of 4 months, dropping one from 12 months until 16 months, so i know how you are probably feeling. a little proud, a little wistful? don't feel like you are doing any disservice, though. you are probably right about the winter and being closed up with everyone else's germs. ben never did get the hang of it, and although he got about 3 1/2 months worth in a bottle, he has only been sick once in his nearly 22 months. you just never know. rest assured that you have done wonders not only for layton's immune system, but for the rest of him (and you) also! you're a great mommy!
totally jealous if you are seeing my nephews tomorrow... if you are, give them a big squeeze and tell them their aunt allie is their favorite aunt and she loves them!
