Baby Jesus

This Easter, we really talked to Layton about its true meaning. We hardly even mentioned the Easter Bunny, mainly because I think it confuses young ones to introduce too many imaginary characters, just to retract their existence later in life. Layton gave the Easter bunny a high five, hunted eggs and woke up to find some goodies in his basket, but we never made a big deal out of it. Our time was spent talking about Jesus and what happened on Good Friday and on Easter morning.

After many talks we would ask him, "Who died on the cross for us because he loves us so much?"
But no matter how many times we told him, "Jesus", he would always answer, "Baby Jesus."

His answer reminds me of the fact that Jesus was once a baby, who was loved by his mother Mary. Jesus was her son, whom she held, cradled and protected. She knew his purpose on Earth, yet her heart ached to see her son suffer on the cross. Did she feel a heavy burden when she had to give him up to save the world? As I hold my baby boy, I can't help but think of Mary and she probably looked at him with the same breathtaking love.
