Caves, Butterflies & Friends

Cindy and I planned a little trip to a nearby cave that we thought the big boys would absolutely love!  Anything with our best buds (me included) makes for a great day.

We began the tour by learning about the cave.  Here's a fun fact: It is the shortest and deepest underground river in the world. And it has the largest cave opening east of the Mississippi. Interesting, huh?

Then it was time to put life-jackets on and begin the tour - on a boat!  It was so neat to travel through this cave on water.  It was quite beautiful.

After learning about karst, limestone, and stalagmites we gathered our cave explorers and took some pictures.

As you can see.....this was as good as we got!

And the littles were like, "how do we escape from this cave?"

Next up, the butterfly exhibit, which was really beautiful and somewhat magical.  You enter into a greenhouse and there are hundreds of butterflies everywhere!

Ella really liked them, isn't she just as pretty as a butterfly:)

And then Nolan and Layton, devised a plan to catch them:)

                  What was their brilliant plan?

To sit down and wait..........................it never worked!

Good try, boys!

It was a win, win  - learning & exploring with our friends!

Wonder what we will tackle next....museum?

I love our spur of the moment trips! My favorite picture is the one of Nolan and Layton waiting for their butterflies. I hope they are good buddies for years to come. They have so much fun together.
